Digitalization Expertise and Services for SMEs

At the House of Digitalization in Tulln, Austria, technology and innovation take center stage – not only in the content presented, but also in the way the showroom itself can be used. Movable lighting trusses are an integral part of the setup, allowing the lighting and stage environment to be adapted flexibly to different events, presentations, and exhibition formats. To keep this flexibility, the trusses need a reliable supply of power and data while they are moving.

Reliable Power and Data Supply for Dynamic Stage Lighting

The House of Digitalization brings together digital topics, events, and innovative presentation formats. To allow the showroom to be used flexibly, the lighting trusses can be moved and positioned as needed.

The power and data supply required for this setup must reliably accommodate the movement of the trusses. At the same time, different types of cables and media are required – from electrical power and speaker connections to CEE outlets and fiber-optic transmission.

Conductix-Wampfler implemented a solution with a total of 28 spring cable reels, enabling flexible power and data supply for the movable trusses.

28 Spring Reels for Flexible Media Supply

The spring reels guide and manage the cables in a controlled manner as the lighting trusses move. The trusses travel at speeds of up to 30 m/min with an acceleration of 0.25 m/s².

The spring reels provide a 10 m winding length, while the total lift of the application is 14 m.

A special feature of the installation is that, in addition to dedicated power and data cables, combined cables for power supply and fiber-optic transmission are also used. This allows electrical power and optical data transmission to be routed together to the moving components.

Power and Data – Combined in a Dynamic Application

Different spring reels are used to supply the various consumers of the stage and media technology. These include cables for equipotential bonding, speakers, CEE connections, as well as other power and data connections.

A particular highlight is the combination of power and fiber-optic transmission: 8 spring reels of type SR40.2PA.5GD090 + JTX40.12 LWL carry a cable combination consisting of 5G4 + 12G50. This combines electrical power supply and optical data transmission in a single dynamic cable routing system.

The installation uses the following spring cable reels in total:

    • 7 × SR30.1SR.1 TP120 – equipotential bonding, 1 × 16 mm²
    • 1 × SR40.3PA.9GD090 – speakers, 8 × 4 – 13G4 mm²
    • 8 × SR20.2PA.5GD050 – CEE 16 A, 5G2.5
    • 4 × SR30.3PA.18GB050 – CEE, 18G2.5
    • 8 × SR40.2PA.5GD090 + JTX40.12 LWL – power and fiber optics, 5G4 + 12G50

The result is a solution tailored to the different requirements of movable stage lighting, providing power supply, data transmission, and equipotential bonding.

Reliable Technology Working Behind the Scenes

For movable stage equipment, power and data need to remain reliably available throughout the movement of the trusses. The spring reels ensure that the connected cables are wound and unwound in line with the movement of the trusses.

This supports flexible use of the stage lighting in the showroom without restricting the mobility of the trusses through the cable routing.

The installation was completed for the House of Digitalization in Tulln in 2022. The building itself was constructed in record time during the pandemic and completed within the planned budget.
